All the Colors of the Dark
Well, I am certainly feeling all the colors of the dark today. Alas, I am thrilled to introduce the incredible Chris Whitaker tonight at the Charleston Literary Festival. I hope those who can will come to hear this incredible author of many books—We Begin At The End and his most recent, All The Colors of The Dark, being my two favorites—speak tonight at 8 pm.
This is a man who knows how to keep the pages turning!
He writes suspense, dark humor, and complex characters that lodge themselves so deep in your heart they can never be extracted. I'm still thinking about Dutchess Radley and looking at all that's happened since We Begin At The End was published in 2020!
In his new novel, Chris Whitaker explores themes of trauma, heroism, and the exhaustive quest for truth in this small-town mystery. Set in 1975 in Monta Clara, Missouri, the story revolves around Patch, a one-eyed boy who fancies himself a pirate because his mother knows that fiction can somehow dull and shape a harsh reality into something easier to swallow for her son. Patch and the rest of the town are in love with Misty, who comes from the other side of the tracks and has the looks and brains that often accompany such privilege. The aftershocks of this near-miss tragedy uncover untold numbers of others and set Patch's best friend, Saint, on an unquenchable quest to track down the answers. This book has garnered much attention for good reason. Do not miss this dynamite book.
