Being Mortal

This book has been patiently waiting on my bedside table for months. Being Mortal came highly recommended to me, and I knew that it was an important book because the subject is something we’ll all face at some point, and our parents before that. Being Mortal is a surgeon’s personal reflection on how to emphasize “well-being” in old age instead of merely doing what it takes to survive. He looks at different models of assisted living and how they could do things differently to give meaning back to the lives of its residents. He also shares the journey of his father’s last chapter and how they tried to handle him with care and respect. It’s a beautiful and very important book for us all.
