Piglet
I was rapt, absolutely tearing through the pages of this book, following Piglet, an unbelievably horrible nickname from childhood that has stuck around into adulthood. She is a very adept cookbook editor and lover of food, and she is getting married in under three months to the love of her life. Kit, her fiancé, comes from a posh family who bought them a beautiful house in an enviable neighborhood. She is stepping into a different type of world than she grew up in, and two weeks before the wedding, Kit confesses that he has betrayed her. The perfectly constructed infrastructure of Piglet starts to silently slide into the abyss as the shock and heartbreak of this confession settle in.
The food descriptions are gorgeous, and the characters are ALIVE. Nearly a week after finishing this book, it still dominates my thoughts. 'Piglet' is my book club pick for fall, and one I am thrilled to discuss in September with my crew. I am also excited that Lottie Hazell will attend the Charleston Literary Festival this fall. I am pinching myself!
