The Bee Sting
I posted this diamond book during the holidays, sandwiched between other books, and I need to rewind and return to this one to explain the level of incredibleness we are dealing with here. It’s off the charts, WAY off. ‘The Bee Sting’ is something exceptional. It knocked the socks right off my feet, and after a month, I am still thinking about the Irish family it concerns itself with. It is, as the New Yorker headlined a ‘Family Saga of Desperation and Denial.’ It is a study in contradictions, and GOLD is to be found in the beautifully written characters. It was: One of The New York Times Top 10 Books of 2023Winner of the An Post Irish Book of the Year 2023Shortlisted for the 2023 Booker Prize and the 2023 Nero Book Award for Fiction Finalist for the 2023 Kirkus Prize for Fiction. It’s long (600, some-odd pages), but in short, you have to read it. This is what January is for, after all.
