What Made Maddy Run
I walked backward into this book by hearing the buzz around Kate Fagan's new book, The Three Lives of Kate Kay, which I will share next. What Made Maddie Run is a critical book on today's student-athletes, perfectionism (especially the insidious female variety), and the culture of commoditizing our young people and where that can lead. The jump from high school to college, especially for college athletes but certainly not limited to them, has become so difficult, and Kate Fagan explains why, all while taking care to tell the story of Maddy Holleran, who tragically died her freshman year at Penn. If you have young people of any age in your life, this book needs to be on your nightstand.
