A Children's Bible
This incredibly imaginative tale positioned comfortably at the cross hairs of post-apocalyptic (WASP style), Anne Patchett's, Commonwealth, and Lord of the Flies. It all starts one summer when a group of college friends, now middle-aged, rent a lakeside mansion for the summer and bring their precocious children to enjoy a reunion. The adults are shockingly self-involved and go on a hedonistic bender while leaving the children to create their existence as they see fit. Then the unthinkable happens and the world as we know it unravels, leaving this temporary social experiment to play out in indefinitely.
