Gardenista
The first pages of this book contain the “Gardenista Manifesto,” ten rules for your outdoor space. Whether it’s a window sill or a rambling garden in Cape Cod, the last rule is my favorite: “Choose personality over perfection; a little wildness in the garden is a good thing.” The editor of ‘Gardentista’ is, like me, a huge fan of the work of Piet Oudolf, who created the High Line in New York as well as my favorite wild landscape in Nantucket. I love landscapes even though I’m completely unknowledgeable about them, but this book invites you in like an old friend all the same. Believe me, you’ll be so happy just being in its company, you won’t realize you’re learning.
