Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet
I was immediately hooked on the story of Henry Lee, a 50-something Chinese-American man who comes upon what might be a lost relic from his past. Henry grew up in Seattle as the world was going to war. Henry develops a sweet friendship with Keiko, a Japanese girl at his school, despite Henry’s father’s hatred of the Japanese. As Henry struggles against the cultural divide and his own father, love and friendships are formed that can never be broken. A lovely story of humanity in a dark period of our country.
