Swimming Lessons
Set in a romantically dilapidated house on the coast of Great Britain, "Swimming Lessons" is a beautiful and honest portrait of the troubled 16 year marriage between Ingrid and Gil Coleman, as revealed through the letters Ingrid wrote and hid in the thousands of books lying around the home. Their relationship begins a little scandalously in the 1970s. Gil is Ingrid's professor, and she gets pregnant straight away. When they get married, Gil is fired from his teaching post and Ingrid has to leave school just shy of her degree. Many betrayals, heartaches, and trespasses ensue, and Ingrid goes missing when their daughters, Nan and Flora, are young. When the girls return to care for their father in his final days, they learn the truth of their parents' journey.
