The Lincoln Highway
Prepare yourselves for a grand statement: This is the great American Novel, and one thing is for sure, I will be giving this book to everyone this year, from my best friend to my father-in-law.
Emmett Watson is on his way home from a stint on a juvenile work farm after serving a sentence for involuntary manslaughter. He plans to collect his 8-year-old brother, let go of the family farm and head out on the Lincoln Highway to find a new life (and maybe their mother, who ran away years ago) in California. But, true to form and lucky for us, things do not go as expected when two of Emmett's friends from the work farm show up after escaping, and the grand adventure begins. I haven't loved a book this much in a long time, and it thrills me to think of how much happiness this book will bring to people. In my opinion, this is the BIG ONE for this fall, this year, and maybe even our lifetimes!
