The Red Car
This book whooshed in and held me captive in the best way possible. I love the main character, Leah, who lives in Queens in a marriage she can't see far enough out of to know she shouldn't even be in it. After her boss and mother-figure, Judy, dies on impact in a car crash, Leah travels back to San Francisco and her old life that she misses dearly for the funeral and to collect the possessions that Judy has left behind (said car included). I love to read about young women in their 20's and 30's and feel Dermansky is very skilled at capturing the way that station in life, with all its doubts and relationship changes, is in a constant state of evolution.
