This is the love story of Joan Didion and her husband John, beginning at the end of John's life. Here we have a peek at the journey a person begins when the love of their life passes on. The opening passage states, "Life changes fast. Life changes in the instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends. The question of self-pity." Didion has written a beautiful account of the bonds of marriage, the love lost and the brave face put on by the widow. Courageous and eloquently written.
