What I love about Mary Oliver’s poems is the same thing I enjoy about this book of prose: it makes us slow down and redirect our attention to the natural world. A feeling of gratitude exudes her writing as she focuses on the woods and animals that inspire her, along with some of her favorite poets like Poe, Frost, and Wordsworth. Mary Oliver is the most transporting writer alive; her work has given hope and touched so many. It’s a pleasure to see her write in a different medium and do it in her usual mirthfulness.
