Kya, known in town as the Marsh Girl, has lived a life of near complete isolation after her family left her, one by one, when she was a young child. Using her dad's old fishing boat to get around, she sold mussels for groceries and gas until a friend of her older brother offered to help her learn to read. A coming of age story with a murder mystery mixed in, "Where the Crawdads Sing" is the best work of fiction I've read in many moons.
